On behalf of the AICA Conference Organising Committee, I invite you to attend the 5^th Biennial Australian Infection Control Association Conference 2008. Infection control is practiced in diverse healthcare systems across the globe often working within complex and challenging environments. This year’s Conference theme ‘Challenge Resistance’ recognises the many challenges faced by today’s infection control staff. ‘Challenge Resistance’ not only refers to resistant pathogens, but also resistant healthcare workers, systems, processes, institutions and bureaucracies. All of these factors must be considered in an effort to provide safer healthcare.

This Conference aims to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in the ever changing climate of infection prevention and control as well as provide educational opportunities for all infection control personnel from novice to expert.
